Q: Who IS Crawford Media Services? And is it a legitimate company?
A: Crawford Media Services is 30+ year-old, highly respected media services company, based in Atlanta, GA. Crawford occupies an 80,000 sq. ft., purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility, offering creative services, to film and TV productions (currently Walking Dead is a major client), videotape and film digitizing, asset management platforms, has 3 PB’s of in-house data storage and is a leader in content services via Metaforce. Metaforce offers human metadata writing, QC, transcription, stock footage creation, etc. Clients range from The National Archives, PBS, and the Paley Center for Media, to the World Wide Wrestling Association. So, yes, Crawford is a legitimate and well-respected media company.
Q: What is Metaforce and how does it work?
A: Metaforce is a web-based platform for managing many thousands of raw media assets, like video files, and assigning tasks to a large distributed workforce of metadata writers and QC personnel. The Metaforce platform monitors the performance of every contractor, the hours worked, tasks completed, and which specific files were both assigned and worked on.
Q: What are the requirements to work on Metaforce?
A. You must have a robust computer with a fast processor and a very high-speed internet connection. You must use Chrome as an internet browser. [More information on getting started with Chrome.] DO NOT plan to do this work on a tablet of any sort.

Q: What happens when I get hired?
A: First, you must pass the test. You will be notified by email after you finish and submit the test. To become a contractor, you must complete and submit (online) a W9 Form http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw9.pdf. This is the standard US government form that every worker needs to complete to considered a contractor. Additionally, you will need to agree to and sign an NDA or Non-Disclosure Agreement. This is also a standard form which says that you agree not to disclose confidential information about the client, materials you work on or any proprietary information you receive about Metaforce to any outside parties or on social media. Once those are signed and submitted you will qualify for payment and training.
Q: How do I know what I’m supposed to do?
Before you can start work you will spend 4 to 6 hours in specific Metaforce training via screen share with Metaforce trainers. You will learn about metadata, strategy, do’s and don’ts, how to use the Metaforce writing tool, and all the rules that surround the different kinds of projects you may work on. Everyone is expected to both write and review metadata for quality control. You will also have ongoing access to the Metaforce training site so you can go back to refresh or check the rules as needed. You may also schedule a time to talk with a trainer if you encounter any issues you don’t understand or otherwise need help with. You can work on your own schedule, but must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week and be able to meet our clients’ deadlines as needed.
Q: How much do I get paid and how does getting paid work?
A: All contractors are paid on an hourly basis. Hourly rates start at $10/hour and go up to as much as $18/hour, depending on the speed and quality of your work in writing and reviewing for quality control. If you excel and are promoted to Administrator, you will be given more hours and another pay raise.
Crawford payment cycles are two Fridays following the last day of the pay period. You have the choice of direct deposit into your bank account. If you decline that option, a paper check can be mailed to you. To choose direct deposit, you will fill out an ACH (Automated Clearing House) Form and your paycheck will be deposited directly into your account.
Q: How much work is required per week?
A. On each project, the company will establish a quota for the number of items per hour and/or hours per week that must be completed. It is your responsibility to ensure that you understand the company’s expectations for the averages you are required to create per hour before commencing work on a particular project.
Failure to achieve the quota will result in your compensation being reduced proportionately to reflect the number of items you actually created per hour, unless within 24 hours of starting a session where the quota was not satisfied, you contact the company in writing.
